1 .  1857- Freedom fighter Mangal Pandey hanged in barrakpur

  • Mangal Pandey (19 July 1827 – 8 April 1857) was an Indian soldier who played a key part in outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857
  • Mangal Pandey’s execution was scheduled for 18 April but was carried out ten days before that date. Jemadar Ishwari Prasad was executed by hanging on 21 April

2.  1929 –At the Delhi Central Assembly, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt throw handouts and bombs to court arrest

  • The aim behind the bombing was not to cause harm but protest against the passing of two repressive bills, the Public Safety Bill and the Trade Dispute Bill
  • Bhagat Singh was executed on March 23, 1931, when he was just 23 years old whereas Dutt got life imprisonment
  • Revolutaiony Nara “Inqlab Jindabad” was given by Bhagat Singh

3 .  1950 – India and Pakistan sign the Liaquat–Nehru Pact

  • The treaty was signed in New Delhi by the Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan on April 8, 1950
  • Also Known as Delhi Pact was a bilateral treaty between India and Pakistan, where refugees were allowed to return to dispose of their property, abducted women and looted property were to be returned, forced conversions were unrecognized, and minority rights were confirmed.
  • Treaty Expired on 8 April 1956

4 .   1985 – India files suit against Union Carbide in New York for Bhopal gas disaster.

  • The Bhopal disaster, also referred to as the Bhopal gas tragedy, was a gas leak incident on the night of 2–3 December 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
  • Methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas was accidentally released from the plant, exposing more than 500,000 people to MIC and other chemicals. The government of Madhya Pradesh confirmed a total of 16,000 deaths related to the gas release. It left an estimated 40,000 individuals permanently disabled, maimed, or suffering from serious illness, making it one of the world’s worst industrial disasters
  • Union Carbide Corporation is an American Company based in Huston texas

5 .  1999 – Haryana Gana Parishad merged with the Indian National Congress

  • Haryana Gana Parishad (Haryana Popular Association), a political party in Haryana, India. HGP was formed when Hissar Lok Sabha MP Jai Prakash was expelled from Haryana Vikas Party.
  • HGP merged with Indian National Congress on 8 April 1999.


  • 1894 – Bankim Chandra Chatterjee passed away
