1. 16 April 1853 – First Train in India from Bombay to Thane
- The 14-carriage train carried 400 guests and covered a distance of 34 km
- The inaugural journey received a salute of 21 guns
- India’s first metro train ran from Esplanade to Bhowanipur (now the Netaji Bhawan station) in Calcutta on 24 October 1984
- Indian Railways runs over 20,000 passenger trains daily from 7,349 stations across India
2 . 16 April 1922 – Treaty of Rapello between Russia and Germany
- The Treaty of Rapallo was an agreement signed between the German Republic and Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) under which each renounced all territorial and financial claims
- A supplementary agreement signed in Berlin on 5 November extended the treaty to cover Germany’s relations with the other Soviet republics: of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and the Far Eastern Republic
